Good afternoon SMS Families!

We have had a busy, and productive full week of school this week, although I know everyone is looking forward to spending time with family next week for Thanksgiving. On behalf of everyone at SMS, I wish you all a great Thanksgiving week!

At morning prayer this week, we read from the Gospel of Luke, and talked about the importance of humbling ourselves before God. We took that conversation out a little bit further talking about when we have disagreements with each other, it is important to hear what each other has to say, and understand that TRUTH is much more important than just being right, and that truth is found in Jesus. On Thursday specifically, we talked about how we shouldn't constantly be looking for loopholes to justify sin, or bad behavior. This week is a short one. We will have Mass on Tuesday, but in prayer on Monday we will read from Luke 23:35-43.

On Friday, November 21, we will be sending home white folders with the youngest child in each family. In that folder will be lunch balances, as well as a letter from me explaining one of our "big three" fundraisers, the SMS $10K Giveaway. This fundraiser typically raises nearly $30,000 for SMS which is critical for our operating costs, allowing us to keep our tuition affordable for our families. You will also receive your first 10 tickets. We ask that all of our families sell AT LEAST 10 tickets. Please do not lose them, as reprinting costs the school even more. Please take the time to read the letter as it explains everything. Thank you!

Bidding for our online dessert auction ends Friday, November 21 at noon. Thanks once again to all who are donating desserts. Auctioned items will need to be brought to the school on Monday the 24th, and we will get the items to the winning bidders! Thanks also to everyone who has bid online!

Please remember this Sunday is our annual Harvest Dinner and Cake Auction. The Harvest Dinner begins after 9:00 am Mass and ends at 2:00 pm. Special thanks to Caitlin Seip, Cynthia Mondragon, the Nead Family, the McRoberts Family, Davenport Family, and our 8th grade class for volunteering! Please plan to eat with us that day, or take some dinners to go, and encourage your family and friends to do the same. If you have not signed up to donate a baked good yet, please drop one off to the Hall Sunday morning between 7:00 and 9:00 am.

On Monday, the 7th and 8th grade will be participating in a service learning day, raking leaves and cleaning up yards in the community. Students may wear SMS spirit-wear that day, and should wear older shoes and gloves if they have them. The weather looks good for that day right now, and we are going to try to knock out several yards. All donations received will go toward the Washington DC trip. 7th and 8th grade parents, please sign the permission slip on OptionC so your child can participate. Thank you.

Our annual SMS Family Thanksgiving meal is on Tuesday at 11:00. Thanks to everyone who signed up to donate rolls and pies. If you could, please deliver them to the school on Monday. This is always a special day at SMS, where we gather everyone together as a school family, give thanks to God, and share a meal. Thank you also to our staff and volunteers who are working behind the scenes to make this day special!

Please remember, we will have early (12:30) dismissal on Tuesday. The SMS and Georgetown buses will run, but the Ripley bus will only run in the morning.

For those who did not hear, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Georgetown voted to donate $5,000 to the St. Michael SRO fund. Thank you Eagles, for your continued support and generosity!

Special thanks to David Wint, for coming in on Friday to talk to our students about the importance of saving and financial planning!
