Thanksgiving in Mrs. Pedigo’s First Grade

What a fun week of Thanksgiving preparation in First Grade! Last week we started a STEM project called “How to Trap a Turkey” and students used various materials to design a trap that could in theory trap a turkey. With our short week, we spent time reading How to Catch a Turkey , wrote about the trap designs and then tried them out. The students learned a lot about collaboration and teamwork as they worked in groups. At the conclusion of planning, each team presented their thoughts behind their trap design. Afterwards, the children focused on using the words “first, then, next, and last” as they wrote a summary of the activity.

Students also made bookmarks and beaded Thanksgiving Day narration bracelets that helped them retell the story of Thanksgiving. We wrapped up the brief week decorating cookies and reading some good books!
