Recently, the 6th grade language arts class finished reading Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan, a race against time in Nazi-occupied Norway. To demonstrate what they have learned and discussed throughout the course of the novel, the students are currently creating presentations covering several aspects of the novel such as setting, characters, theme, plot, and historical context. I am super proud of their hard work and the effort they have shown in these projects!

Earlier this trimester, we also took some time to practice poetry writing. Students were tasked with writing a descriptive poem about “where they are from,” but we aren’t talking about Ripley! This poem required them to call to mind the events, people, foods, and activities that have made them the unique people that they are. These were very insightful and allowed me to understand more about who they are beyond the classroom walls. I can’t wait to see what this group will blow me away with next!
