After reassessing the attendance situation today, we have decided to cancel classes the remainder of the week. These 2.5 days will be counted as calamity days.

We have 30 students out today, not including preschool which we had already sent home for the week. Our feelings are that it is unwise to try to push through the rest of this week and put our families in difficult situations with Christmas break coming so soon.

I know many students will be disappointed that we will not have our Christmas parties this week, but we will have our Christmas dress down day for a cause and classroom parties on Wednesday, January 5 so hopefully all of our students will be able to celebrate together.

We do have more calamity days built in to the schedule, but as we get closer to our limit, we will likely use distance learning or NTI days particularly in the case of snow days. We will be prepared if and when that time comes, but you should be aware of it as well.

Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and we weighed out many factors when making the decision. We believe this is the best course of action for our families.

Today there will be no white folder, but there will be the final newsletter. Please read it, especially the part about our new website and app. It is essential that every SMS family has access to the information which will be posted on our website and app from now on.

On behalf of the staff of St Michael School, I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas. Please keep our school and all of our families in your prayers.
