The word "snow" written into the snow

We are starting to get into the “snow day” time of year. In fact by this time last year we already had one snow day. We do have several snow days “built in” to the schedule due to the fact that our total number of instructional hours easily exceeds the required number of instructional hours required by the state.

Some people are of the belief that we follow the RULH cancellation policy, and although it is likely that most days cancelled or delayed will be in common, we DO NOT strictly follow any other school’s lead.. We believe that it is best for our students to have their instructional time interrupted as little as possible, but we will always put our student’s safety above all other factors.

We will take all factors into consideration. When bad weather is forecasted I am in constant communication with Mr. Heslar, our Georgetown bus driver, as well as administrators at RULH. I also get out and check the roads around Ripley and check our sidewalks around the school. Our hill particularly can be treacherous and prove difficult for morning drop-off. If we do have school and the hill is a little rough, I will try to give everyone a heads up. The best thing to do is watch me on the hill and I will guide you around the icy spots. On those snowy/icy days it would be better if parents did not park on the hill.

School closings or 2 hour delay announcements will be made on our website and app and will also come over our One Call system. No need to watch the scroll at the bottom of the news stations! In the event that we get close to our maximum number of hours missed, we will likely begin to send home Chromebooks, and/or extra work for students to have class remotely. Although this is a possibility, I assure you, we will only take this course of action if it is absolutely necessary. Please make sure you have downloaded our app though, and be sure to check it out. That will be the best way to stay in the loop.
