Hello SMS Families!
Sorry for the late newsletter!
First, welcome back Mrs. Chloe from her maternity leave! We are blessed to have her back. We also thank Mrs. Susen Arn for filling in for the beginning of the trimester. We were very fortunate to have a teacher with so much experience and expertise fill in.
Information went home this week about the Science Fair. Students in grades 3-8 will have projects at the SMS Science Fair, and although some work will be done at school, we ask that parents help their child stay on track. We are way ahead of schedule, but I don't want anyone to get caught off-guard. The SMS Science Fair January 29.
On Tuesday, the Preschool and Kindergarten will make their annual visit to R Farms in Kentucky. The 1st and 2nd grade will go on Wednesday. If you have not signed your permission slip on eforms on OptionC, please do so asap. I know a lot of parents like to go on field trips particularly when their children are younger, and you are absolutely welcome to come. But please do not feel obligated to do so. Parents who do plan to go, please note you will be responsible for paying your own way and for any other children that you bring. Also, unless you have completed Safe Parish, including the online background check, you will not be permitted to be in charge of any groups. Of course you may walk around with your own child, but all volunteers who work with children in any way must be Safe Parish compliant, for the safety of all of our children. Also, if you are planning to go, please help teachers by staying close to groups. Our number one priority at any field trip is safety. Thanks for your help on this. This is always a fun trip for our students.
Please note that there will be no SMS or Ripley afternoon bus service in the afternoon on Friday, October 16. Please make appropriate arrangements.
On Friday, October 23, our 8th graders will volunteer at the Saint Vincent dePaul building (next to St George). Students may be out of uniform, and will help tidy up the building, including outdoor painting.
