Good afternoon SMS Families!

I know everyone is excited for fair break. Good luck to all of our students who are taking projects to the fair this year. Please see the graphic below highlighting our students who told me about their projects. Please feel free to post fair pictures, and/or results on the SMS FB Families Page! I am proud of all of them, and their hard work! To everyone who is traveling over the break, safe travels, and to all who are having a relaxing time with family, we hope you have a wonderful break!

On Wednesday, students will bring home a school picture order form. Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, October 6. Students should be in uniform for this picture, as they will go in the yearbook. For Spring pictures, students may be out of uniform. You can also order online here. Online Order Form.

On Wednesday, October 7 the 8th grade class will travel to St. George by bus to help organize and pass out food at the Mobile Food Pantry. We will leave school at 8:15 and return around 10:30. This is a great service learning opportunity for our students! Parents, please fill out the permission slip eform on OptionC.

On Friday, October 9 we will have our annual St Francis of Assisi Pet Blessing. At 2:00 pm, our entire student body will gather in the parking lot. Parents are welcome to bring pets from home (as long as the pets will be ok around other pets!), and Father will give the blessing. Pets do not have to be present to receive the blessing. Students are welcome to bring pictures, or even drawings of their pets for the blessing. After the blessing students will go back to homerooms, and will be dismissed on the normal schedule.

There will be a meeting for all 2nd graders who will be making their First Confession this year, on October 11. Students will be bringing home notes about it this week. The meeting is at 10:45 am at St George in Georgetown.

Congratulations to SMS Students Solomon Willey, Knox Owens, and Lakin Jones, Ripley Police Department's Red Star Students for September. These students went above and beyond displaying respect, responsibility, kindness, academic improvement, and helping their teachers and classmates. Congratulations!

Looking a little further ahead, preschool and kindergarten will visit RFarms on October 13, and 1st and 2nd grades will visit on October 14. If you have not yet filled out the permission slips on OptionC, please do so. Again, we are absorbing all field trip costs this year. We just ask that you help get as many people as possible to donate to our fully tax refundable SGO.

If you use the SMS bus, would like to put Friday, October 16 on your radar. There will be no afternoon SMS bus service that day. Please make appropriate arrangements for pickup.

Finally, we would like to encourage everyone to save the date for this year's SMS Gala. Last year we raised nearly $40,000 in our first year. Even better, it was a great time! You do not want to miss out on this event, and we hope all of our families are able to make it. Our hope is to not only raise money for our school, but to bring our school community even closer together. Please mark January 30 in your calendars!
