Happy Friday SMS Families!
We have had a great opening week here getting back to it. It's always an adjustment for everyone coming back from Summer Break, and I am sure I'm not the only one exhausted and ready for the weekend!
Today is our first school Mass of the year, which I have been looking forward to all week!
Today Chuck Burke, SMS dad, and real scientist, will be working with Mr. Hyde and our our 5th-8th grade science students in lab.
Gentle reminder: If you would like to send in treats for your child's class for a birthday, please coordinate it with the homeroom teacher. Please do not bring treats, fast food, or pop into the cafeteria for a child or a small group of children. The reason being, it's rough with kids when part of the group is getting a treat and some are excluded. Thanks for helping us with this.
If you have not turned in your Emergency Medical and Income form for Title 1 services, or have not completed eforms on OptionC, please try to finish that up soon. Most students have been awarded scholarships, which should be reflected in your OptionC accounts. We are still waiting on a few to be awarded.
This week we met Mrs. Andrea Curry, our new Spanish teacher. Mrs. Andi, as she likes to be called by students will begin this Monday. For those of you who missed the newsletter this summer, all of our students in grades 3-8 will have Spanish class twice each week. This is a great opportunity!
We are excited to announce that Ms. Caroline Ernst, an SMS graduate and recent graduate of the University of Dayton, with a bachelor's degree in psychology, will be helping our students as a paraprofessional, while she works on her graduate degree at Xavier University. We are blessed and excited to have Ms. Ernst!
The crunch for the Golf Outing is on. We are two weeks away from our 12th annual SMS Golf Outing, held this year at Laurel Oaks Golf Course in Maysville, Kentucky. So far, we have 25 teams signed up and almost 50 hole sponsors. We are still looking for 5-10 teams, 50-70 sponsors and we still need some prizes. We are doing well, but need to finish up strong this week. There is still time, but it would be great if we could get everything in by next Friday so we can print signs, and make other plans for the day. If you would like to help the day of, please reach out to me as well, as we could use a few volunteers. Special thanks to the Nead and Fetters families for providing the food for the day!
We have some great news for our families. We have decided to take a bit of a "leap of faith" in order to de-stress our families, and will not have any fees associated with field trips, field day, or tech for the 2026-27 school year. The only costs associated for our families will be for tuition and lunch. We just ask that everyone helps with our fundraisers (Golf Outing, $10K, Gala, and Fish Fry) and encourage friends and family make a tax deductible donation to the SGO. We hope this will help all of our families this school year.
