creek day

Another awesome tradition at SMS is "Creek Day", a day of exploring Eagle Creek, a local ecosystem for signs of life and creek health. This year, our students will be led by our awesome staff including Ms. Cox, Mr. Pedigo, Mrs. Ashton, and Mr. Hyde. SMS Dad and real-life scientist Mr. Burke will also be on site, helping our students explore.

If any parents would like to help with Creek Day, please send me an email so I can give you more details.

We will have three groups go to the creek on the SMS bus for about 2 periods each. We will once again contact the Ripley Life Squad to have on site as well, to add a layer of safety.

Creek Day is Tuesday, May 12. Students should wear creek clothes (old clothes that are not too tight or too revealing, no short shorts! swimming trunks are allowable. They should also have old shoes, as they will get muddy.) All students should bring a towel.

  • 7th and 8th will go first, so they can wear creek clothes to school and change into spiritwear when they get back

  • 5th and 6th grade will go 2nd. They also can wear creek clothes to school, and change into spiritwear when they get back

  • 3rd and 4th go last. They may wear spiritwear and will not have to change clothes when they get back since it is the end of the day.

This has been a fun day of real science for years, and something the students look forward to every year. Please sign the permission slip for your child on OptionC.
