science fair

The Brown County Science Fair was held this past Saturday at the Brown County Educational Service Center. SMS had 12 students compete with students from elementaries all over the county in grades 3 through 8. We heard fantastic reports of how all of our students conducted themselves. One outstanding and one honorable mention project was chosen in each grade level, and there were also six more special awards that were chosen based on specific criteria.

Congratulations to SMS 3rd Grade student, Josie Layman and 4th Grade student, Oakley McJoynt-Griffith who won the most outstanding projects in their grade levels. Congratulations also to SMS 7th Grade student, Zoey Durham and 8th Grade student, Ella Seip who won the honorable mention award in their respective grade levels. SMS students Josie Sentney and Owen O'Connor also won special awards sponsored by Brown County Soil and Water.

Congratulations to all of our students who worked so hard on their projects, whether they were recognized or not, they have carried on a great SMS tradition of success in the science fair, and everyone learned more about the scientific process, research, and gained confidence in explaining a complex process to an adult.

Thanks also to our staff and volunteer judges who spent a day with our students at our science fair!
