gaming club 2025

This year we have introduced a new after school club known as the SMS Gaming Club. Contrary to it's name there are NO video games included. We are playing board games, hybrid games and role playing games to teach the kids to use their imaginations and interpersonal skills by working with their fellow competitors to resolve problems. With today's bombardment of video games and video media we wanted to go a different direction and teach them how to talk to one another face-to-face. This group will play, then break down the gaming styles, genres, and timelines and eventually they will have the opportunity to design and build their own game! Included in the picture is the boy's team of Emmit Hedges, Justin Nead, Jude Piatt, and Weston Wireman. In the front row is the girls group of Annabelle Burke, Elliana Black, Saylor Gray, Josephine Ernst, and Zoey Durham. We have already started with the board games and will soon migrate to a board/RPG hybrid before venturing into full Role-Playing Game format. This final format really challenges the students to use their imagination and problem solving skills in order to overcome obstacles that appear during game-play.
