What a great opening week! Despite the heat and the construction on campus, we had a wonderful beginning of the 2025-26 school year. This week we take the next step, with our first full week!
Volunteers: Huge thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help in the lunch room this year. It looks like Mrs. Caitlin has a great crew! We are thankful for you all! I would also like to give a special thanks to Susan Polley, Susen Arn and Bill Arn who are volunteering to help our 3-8 grade math students this year. Also, an extra special thanks to SGTMAJ Kokensparger who is not only volunteering to teach canjo to some of our 5-8 graders, but also help in our 5-8 grade math students in our MTSS periods on Tuesday and Thursday. Volunteering is a great way to help SMS and a great example for our students.
SMS Bus: The SMS bus is available for any students who are not eligible to ride the Georgetown or Ripley buses. We pick up in the morning at the Home Place in Georgetown and the Marathon station in Aberdeen. We drop off at the Home Place and in Russelville. Our bus was generously donated by the Fussnecker family a couple years ago, and I volunteer to drive it. Our only cost is fuel and maintenance. SMS receives no public funding for our bus, so we rely solely on the generosity of our parents and our community. We will run the bus on donations as long as we can. If you use the bus and are able to donate to help with the costs, we are most appreciative.
Paperwork: We have about one third of our families who still need to fill out paperwork. Please try to finish that this weekend. We must have this paperwork for your child to attend SMS. Again, if you are having difficulty with OptionC, call me, and I will be happy to help.
We just have a handful of families who still need to turn in Scholarship Award Letters. If you have not received yours and you are expecting a scholarship, it is important that you let us know asap, so we can help you.
Golf Outing: We are off to a slow start. I know we always come through, but we have more families who have joined us at SMS than we have ever had. It is important that everyone does their part. As a reminder, the purpose of our fundraisers are to keep our tuition affordable for our families, Please send in your hole sponsors, teams and prizes. The golf outing is September 13.
Looking ahead at this week- Now that we understand the schedule and the routine, we look to have a regular week- where we are able to stack learning days and make lots of growth. The Algebra teacher in me, is excited to get going! On Friday, Allie Corns from First State Bank will meet with our 5th-8th grades to talk about personal finance.
