Thanks to everyone who made our first "Mother / Son Night Out" a fun, memorable night for our moms and sons. We had a great turnout, and I believe has become a new SMS tradition.
We had an action-packed week! Thanks to Mrs. Hamilton, Sherman Collins, the Georgetown Life Squad and the rest of our staff who made our annual "Creek Day" a fun, memorable day, full of great learning experiences. Our Preschool had a fun trip to Family Traditions Animal Adventures, and Kindergarten, First and Second Grade had a great day at Taft Theater, with Frozen Junior! Yesterday, we offered a Requiem Mass for Pope Francis, along with Adoration and May Crowning. Finally, special thanks to Susen Arn and Janet Rockey who spent some time with grades 5-8, teaching them how to sew a button, and gave each of our students a sewing kit!
The action continues this week! Please remember the SMS Spring Concert, tomorrow, Sunday, May 4. Student should wear "Sunday best" and be at the Gaslight Theater by 2:30. The show will begin at 3:00.
This week, we will be having our spring assessments. Grades K-1 will be taking AimsWeb tests individually over the course of the week. Grades 2-8 will be taking the MAP test on Tuesday morning, and grades 5 and 8 will be taking the MAP Science test on Wednesday. Please make sure students get plenty of sleep, and a good breakfast so we can get an accurate snapshot. Remember, the purpose of these tests are to help us determine how/where our students need extra help.
Our annual Mother's Day Brunch will be held Thursday and Friday. Thanks to everyone who RSVP'd as space is at a premium. Special thanks to Caitlin Seip, Brian Nead, and Ashton Arn for helping organize this event.
I had a mom tell me this week that she has not been receiving texts from us. If you ever think you are not receiving communications from SMS, PLEASE let me know so I can troubleshoot the issue.
We are getting everything together for Field Day at the Kathryn Hanlon Park in Georgetown on Friday, May 16. Please remember to send in your child's $10 fee or pay on OptionC. I f you would like to help at Field Day, please let me know asap, as organization and planning is key to a successful Field Day!
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I am extremely proud of the staff we have assembled. Whenever we interview staff members here, we always stress that the most important part of the job is loving our students, and I assure you they do. Recruiting teachers is tough, anywhere, but one of our greatest incentives is our culture, where their work is appreciated. We have so many talented people who give of their time, talent and often times, treasure because they love our students, and want to help them in any way they can. I encourage you all to express your appreciation to our staff this week.
Finally, I want to thank you all for your patience while we are determining our staffing for next year. We are blessed that we have several great options. We are prayerfully discerning the best path for our children, and and I am excited to share the plan with you soon.
See you at the concert!
