SMS News

We hope everyone had an enjoyable, unexpected 4 day weekend. We are ready to get back to it at SMS tomorrow morning! There are lots of things going on this week at SMS, please make sure you keep yourself in the loop!

First Reconciliation: Congratulations to all of our second graders who made their First Reconciliation this past weekend!

8th Grade to Visit Southern Hills CTC- This Wednesday, January 24 our 8th grade students will visit the Southern Hills Career and Technical Center in Georgetown to check out the programs that they offer. We will leave on the SMS bus around 8:00 am and will be there from 8:30-10:00 am. Then we will return to the school before lunch.

Community Soup Supper: Every January, SMS sponsors the Community Soup Supper at the Methodist church in Ripley. The supper will take place this Thursday, January 25. Thanks to everyone who signed up on Sign Up Genius. Please have your ingredients here no later than first thing Thursday morning. We also, will need some volunteers to help serve and clean up in the evening. If you would like to help, please let us know in the office. If you have not yet signed up, but would still like to help, please bring a dessert item (cookie, brownie, cake, pie, etc.) to school by Wednesday

SMS Science Fair: The SMS Science Fair will take place this Friday, January 26. The Science Fair is for students in grades 3-8. Due to the judging that is going on in the Hall, we will have pizza available for lunch that day. It will count as a school lunch charge. Lunch will be eaten in homerooms that day.

Catholic Schools Week: CSW kicks off next week with mass on Sunday, 1/28. We encourage anyone to go to mass at one of our Parishes: St. Mary (Arnheim) Saturday @4:00pm, St. Michael (Ripley) Sunday @ 9:00am, St. Michael (Mt. Orab) Sunday @ 9:15am, St. Patrick (Fayetteville) Sunday @ 11:00am or St. George (Georgetown) Sunday @ 12:00 Noon. Students are encouraged to wear their uniforms to mass! More to come about CSW this week on Wednesday

Open House :  Our annual Open House for new and prospective families is set for Sunday, January 28 following mass until 1:00 pm. Anyone who is considering SMS for next year, or for future years, are encouraged to come find out more about our school and the application process.

Registration: Many of you have turned in your registration forms and EdChoice requests and renewals. (Thank you) If you have not yet, please do so as soon as possible. Based on phone calls and emails we have received, we are anticipating a large number of applications for the 2024-25 school year. We want to give our current families priority, and we are not currently anticipating new space for next year. So, space will be limited, and it is important for us to know if any seats will be available in any classes.

To clarify.

  • One registration form is required per family.  The registration fee is $200 unless you have or will sell 30 raffle tickets.
  • Applications are required for any student who is new to SMS. It is recommended if a parent is planning to send their child to SMS, that they fill an application out no matter how young the child.
  • EdChoice renewal forms are for any students who already has the EdChoice Scholarship. These families also need to turn in proof of address.
  • EdChoice request forms are for any student who is new to the EdChoice program in grades K-8. These families need to turn in birth certicficates AND proof of address.

$10K Fundraiser: We are less than 4 weeks away from the first fist fry and first $1,000 drawing. We have a LONG way to go! Our goal is to sell at least 2,000 tickets. Remember, every family is responsible for at least the original ten tickets we sent you, but it is to your advantage to sell 30 to get that registration fee waived! If you need more tickets just let us know.

Fish Fry: As mentioned above, we are less than 4 weeks away. The fish fry is our fundraiser that requires the most volunteers.  Although many SMS families work every fish fry (because its fun), ALL SMS families are expected to work at least 3, 2 hour shifts. You could work six hours one day, or spread it out over all six weeks. We try to make it a fun environment, and a great place for our families to get to know each other. Please start thinking ahead which weeks you will be available. The fish fries are every Friday from February 16-March 22. Sign ups will be coming out soon.

Looks like we should be good to go on weather. Have a great week!
