SMS News

Good afternoon!

I apologize, but this will be lengthy as we have a lot to catch up on. I apologize that most of my communication and energy have been going to the bus situation and the golf outing, but there are a few things I would like to mention and put on your radar.

First of all it is very important that you read news articles that come from the school. Although they can always be found on our website, I normally post them to our FB Families page and send out a notification on the SMS App. If it a very important story, it will come to your cell phone in a text. I would encourage you all to use our app for the lunch menu and upcoming events as well.

  • Thanks to everyone who made our golf outing a huge success. We set another record, raising over $22,000 for SMS. Our families did a fantastic job finding hole sponsors, teams and prizes. I want to give a special thanks to the Heslar, Nead, Fetters, Collins, Seip, and Willey families who went above and beyond for this event.
  • Today is Spirit Day. For the most part, everyone dressed appropriately, but please remember in the future that for Spirit Day, students should wear SMS Spirit shirts with uniform pants/shorts/skirts. Sprit Day is normally on the last Monday of the month. All spirit days are on the SMS Google Calendar and can be found on the events page on our website and app.
  • The Kona Ice truck came today, almost everyone remembered. Everyone that wanted a Kona Ice was able to get one, and looked like everyone enjoyed a great afternoon with a cool treat.
  • This Friday we will be sending white SMS folders home with up-to-date  balance statements for lunch and tuition. In fact, everyone's account should be up-to-date on OptionC now, and you should be able to check balances at any time. If you feel there is an error on your balance sheet, please let us know in the office. MANY Edchoice scholarships have not been awarded yet. If you are still waiting for an award letter from Edchoice, you will not receive a tuition balance sheet. Our plan is to send these home once a month, so things don't build up.
  •  We have an entry in the fair parade, and I will be happy to pull a wagon. If you have an appropriate hay wagon and maybe a few square bales we can borrow for the parade, please contact the school office. I will have more details about parade lineup at the end of the week.
  • We are planning to celebrate Grandparents Day on Friday, November 10. We will have a story with more information coming later this week, I just wanted you to be able to get it on your calendar.
  • There are still some families who have not completed their eforms on OptionC. These are very important forms that must be filled out.  Please complete those before the end of the week. If you are having trouble logging in to OptionC please let us know.
  • I know you don't need a reminder (but here's one anyway) that next week is Brown County Fair Week, and we will be out of school. Good luck to all of our students taking projects to the fair, and safe travels to our families who are headed out of town!
