First Grade Teacher

“Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” -C.S. Lewis

Hi! I wanted to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Shauna Wilson and I am so excited to be teaching first grade at St Michael’s! I have taught for 34 years including 22 years of first grade, 4 years of second grade, one year of kindergarten, two years of transition, and the rest of my years I have spent teaching reading recovery and title I and most recently I have my teaching/practitioner certification as an Orton Gillingham teacher so I have taught just reading to first graders for the last three year. My students will be immersed in learning beginning with our bright and interactive classroom. I believe in creating a love of learning starting early in the child’s school career. I try to do this through hands on learning activities, group work, and small groups. I know that the children will blossom throughout the school year and I will provide many opportunities for cross curricular learning in reading, math, science and social studies. I want students to feel loved and accepted in my classroom while we have an amazing time learning! I can honestly say that I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school where I wrote a poem in fourth grade about becoming a teacher. I have taught in the public school system my entire career which includes 8 years of teaching first grade at Mt Orab Primary and the last 26 years at William Bick Primary and I look forward to now being part of the St Michael family and helping children reach their full potential! I received my bachelor’s degree with majors in Elementary Education and Bible from Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, Ky followed by my M.Ed. from the University of Dayton. I have also been a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar Lecture participant, and I have two years of Orton Gillingham Training. I have spent my entire life in Clermont county and I still live in Bethel near my parents and their farm. I am blessed with one son, Mitchell, and a beautiful daughter in love, Gracyn, and my first grandson, Trussell, who live in South Euclid, Ohio so I enjoy visiting them in my free time. I also love to work in my flowerbeds and garden and I enjoy canning what the garden yields.
